The Republican caucus in the Oklahoma legislature will not bring the personhood amendment up for a hearing. Their reasoning is that it may inadvertently ban contraception and open them up to further legal challenges. I heard Leader Steele say on the radio they've already managed to make abortion extremely difficult, so they're satisfied for the moment.
This is good news, but we're not out of the woods yet on this. The anti-choice folks are trying to get a standalone referendum on the ballot.
