I'll have a more complete account of how Anders Behring Breivik fits into the Dominionist Christian world later.
But first let's get the reaction from the center of the Birther universe - World Net daily, who tries to claim that Anders is not a Christian.
First, Anders is a Birther, and he's probably well aware of WND. That's awkward for them! From the manifesto:
(From the manifesto)
Additionally, we are calling for President Barrack Obama's Impeachment for actually saying he was a Marxist, as well as not being able to provide proof of American citizenship. ....
Second, Anders has stereotype Fox News opinions:
- He praises the Tea Party
- Global warming is hoax
- He wants to abolish Social Security
- He's into Christian "spiritual warfare"
- Hates "secularism"
- Says his movement has many friends in American GOP
- Believes in the Fox News' "War On Christmas"
- Wants to restore "Christian culture"
- Hates "multiculturalism"
- Condemns "cultural Marxism" (Andrew Breitbart and Pat Buchannan also attack "cultural Marxism")
Third Anders ideas about "cultural Marxism" has promoted by WND.
This is from the review of a book coauthored by Pat Boone (the book, not the review).
(from WND)
Now you know who stole our culture. The question is, what are we, as Christians and as cultural conservatives, going to do about it?....We can separate ourselves and our families from the institutions the cultural Marxists control and build new institutions for ourselves, institutions that reflect and will help us recover our traditional Western culture.....to secede from the corrupt, dominant culture and create parallel institutions: the homeschooling movement.
Fourth, Ander writes about the persecution of Christians, which is WND's bread and butter.
(from the manifesto)
The Bible tells us that we are now all good soldiers of Jesus Christ. Whether we want to face up to it or not, we are all living in a war zone as a result of the curse of Adam and Eve that is still in full operation on this earth. Anyone of us at anytime can come under human or demonic attack. The daily news will prove that to you without any shadow of a doubt......Each Christian must now make their own personal decision on all of this. You can either choose to learn how to rise up in the power of your Lord and Saviour and learn how to become a true warrior in the Lord, or you can continue to keep your head in the sand and oppressor after oppressor keep beating you down. The choice is yours....Iit is the right and duty of Christians to wage war on those that blaspheme our God and persecute our brethren......Christians should come together and study and support one another in tackling persecution and oppression of Christians. Theology should be rooted in the experiences of the persecuted.......When we, the cultural conservatives ... we will ...eradicate the corruption which is continuing to plague the Church (both the Catholic and Protestant church). We must ensure that we have Christian leaders who believe in; self defence, protection of Eastern Christendom and the protection of Christians worldwide.
Now let's just take a pass on the whole terrorism issue for today and look at how WND has to go straight for the Big Lie to deny Anders:
Terrorist proclaimed himself 'Darwinian,' not 'Christian'
Really? Well, let's search the PDF file of the manifesto for "Darwin."
We find four favorable references to variations on "social Darwinism" (a favorite conservative bromide), and one quote that says "There would have been no Copernicus, Galileo, Newton or Darwin" without the free thinking of western culture. And he put "Origin of the Species" on the list of books he read along with Ayn Rand etc etc.
The point is, the WND headline is a naked lie, apparently driven by a desperate need to disown this Bible quoting Birther.
What else does WND say?
(from WND)
Breivik instead hails Charles Darwin, whose evolutionary theories stand in contrast to the claims of the Bible, and affirms: "As for the Church and science, it is essential that science takes an undisputed precedence over biblical teachings. Europe has always been the cradle of science, and it must always continue to be that way. Regarding my personal relationship with God, I guess I'm not an excessively religious man. I am first and foremost a man of logic. However, I am a supporter of a monocultural Christian Europe."
First of all we already covered Anders' mentions of Darwin, so WND is resorting to a complete fabrication. And the fact that Anders believed in "logic" - what that makes him an atheist? Believing in "logic" puts someone completely outside the realm of Christianity?
Finally, they try to say that Anders statement that he "does not have a personal relationship with Jesus" proves he is not a Christian. Well probably 60% of American Christians would not "have a personal relationship" with Jesus, at least not the kind of relationship WND says you must have.
The really insidious thing about groups like WND is their demand for complete mental submission, because unless your brain is tuned to the exact frequency, unless you respond in exactly the right way, you are damned. It's like when you saw "Titanic" on a date in the theater. Did your girlfriend respond to it exactly the same way? Did your boyfriend cry when DeCaprio drowned? No? Well it's a good think James Cameron doesn't decide who goes to hell, because most of you just wouldn't make the grade.
In the end, WND has to resort to the usual wingnut claim to their own telepathic superpowers and the ability to gin up straw man attacks. They want to disown Anders, but they have to resort the flimsiest of ad hominims.
And the thing is, why can't they just say he was WRONG? Why does their best shot come down to "He wasn't really one of us because of some subtle nuance?" They can't honestly claim that his political opinions and even religious pronouncements would be out of place on their site, so they have claim that they know he is operating on an ever so slightly different mental frequency that only they perceive, and this absolves them of any responsibility.
