Last Friday, I published a diary about 900 greyhounds that need to be adopted from the soon-to-be-closed Dairyland dog racing track in Kenosha, WI. The original info I posted was not completely accurate. More accurate information is over the fold.
On Friday, I posted that any dogs which were not adopted out by Christmas were going to be euthanized. Thankfully, that turned out to be wrong.
I called the Dairyland Racetrack Adoption Center on Saturday and spoke to a real live person. She said that none of the dogs are going to be euthanized and that the Adoption Center is working with agencies in other states to help adopt out the greyhounds. The dogs are all evaluated for suitability in homes with children and/or other pets and/or whether they should be only dogs.
If you want any more information about rescuing one of these greyhounds, please call the Dairyland Racetrack Adoption Center at 262-612-8256.
I am not affiliated with the track. I don't know any more than what I have posted here. I am posting this with my BlackBerry and I have to go back to work soon, so I will not be ble to respond much, if at all, here until around 6:00 CST
I am, however, seriously wondering if one of these greyhounds would get along with my very laid-back 11-year-old cat.
Update: Thanks for all the support! Please spread the word about these greyhounds if you know anyone who wants a dog. I also fixed a couple misspellings in the original diary text. I missed them on my handheld.
