I am expanding a bit on a comment I made in a different thread. I preface this by saying that I could care less what Republicans do in the privacy of their own boudoir but Republicans themselves have made homosexuality a campaign issue and with that in mind maybe we should explore what this means a little more.
Why was Foley so well protected? Why, when any sane person could see that this was playing with fire on a conflagration level, would a House Majority leader sanction this kind of behavior?
Was it the money Foley brought in or was it something more? Is there a dirty big secret behind the Republican power structure in Washington?
Dennis Hastert "rooms" with his male chief of staff
(I know, I know, but I'm old enough to remember the great Matt Crowley and the line, two men living together? They're either lovers or sisters.)
and when his wife comes to town she stays in a hotel.

I've been reading more and more that Representative staff members are gay and that this is not a big deal. Even Rick Santorum has one.
"Gay" keeps coming up over and over. Jeff Gannon. Duke Cunningham (I'm driving myself crazy at the moment trying to find which official commented that there were no female prostitutes at any of Dukes bashes.)
A quote here from about the time the Cunningham scandal broke:
For the past six months there we have been hearing a lot of rumors that not only the Congressman Cunningham but as many as a half dozen other Congressmen may have been involved in this. And we've also been hearing about the limousine service that Brent Wilkes used to bring prostitutes to the Watergate hotel and the Grand Westin in Washington.

Who were these congressmen?
I've always felt there was something a little weird about Republican gay bashing and I wouldn't be surprised if the sexualty of many of those in power now is a dirty big secret from the Dukestir to... well...the possibilities...
Maybe all this is nonsense but my personal feeling is there had to be a reason to protect Foley and sure, maybe it's money, but maybe there's more. He was protected by those with the same vested interest.
