Please be advised of these developments in the ongoing attempt by the Mexican RightWing to steal the recent election from AMLO.

I. Jorge Castaneda Gutman (the Mexican version of David Horowitz) has admitted that Fox illegally interfered in the recent election. Castaneda says, "Fox's campaign in favor of Calderon was very important in his virtual victory."

According to Mexican law, this is grounds for election nullification. Castaneda, of course, holds out hope that the Court will rule that Fox didn't interfere in the election.
II. Mexicans have begun to discuss the possibility of the annulment of the election, which would be followed by another election in 18 months. This scenario has been repudiated by both the Center-Left PRD and the RightWing PAN. Among the possible interim presidents would be Juan Ramon de la Fuente or Cuauhtemoc Cardenas.

III. There is yet more evidence of Fox's illegal intervention in the election. He delayed the publication of poverty statistics (which showed an increase in the poor) until after the election. (The stats were suppose to be released in May.) Again, please note that presidential intervention in the election is grounds for annulment.

IV. The RightWing has begun to violently attack the center-left PRD. This is a result of the PAN-induced polarization of Mexican society.

Three members of the PRD who were camping out in front of the District Council #7 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, were violently attacked by eight individuals apparently tied to the PAN, with the intention of having them abandon the site.
The PRD members stated that Army personnel at the site did nothing to stop the assault. In fact, "They began to laugh."

V. Elena Poniatowska, a prominent intellectual, and author of a famous work chronicling the 1968 Massacre at the UNAM, has begun to receive death threats, due to her support of a recount.

VI. According to this Washington Post note, AMLO's phrase, "Vote by vote, polling place by polling place," is resonating with the Mexican populace.

VII. Please recall that RightWing businessmen also actively interfered in the election, a clear violation of Mexico's election laws, and also grounds for nullification. In fact, the CCE, a group of RightWing businessmen hoping to maintain their privileged position in the country (for example, they don't pay any tax on capital gains, and RightWing Calderon has promised them a cut in the marginal tax rate) bought millions of dollars in TV ad time during the election, a clear violation of electoral laws. AMLO and his team promptly filed a complaint, but the electoral body refused to act immediately. It should be noted that the head of the electoral body, Ugalde, had Calderon serve as a witness at his wedding.

Kossacks, this is a struggle that Centrists and Progressives can't abandon. AMLO's fight for justice is our fight for justice.
Calderon is a dangerous reactionary who doesn't believe in science

and whose wife wouldn't even accept a condom on World AIDS day

Moreover, his fiscal policies are destined to doom Mexico. He promises to impose a flat tax, which would result in a tax cut for the most affluent Mexicans, who already don't pay their fair share in taxes. For example, his friend, Roberto Hernandez, sold his bank, Banamex (which had been bailed out by the taxpayers) for over 10 billion dollars, without paying one peso in taxes. Calderon has stated that Hernandez did the right thing in not paying taxes.
In other words, Calderon is in favor of privatizing the gain (Hernandez kept 100% of the profit from the sale of Banamex to Citigroup), and socializing the costs (the Mexican taxpayer had to allocate 20% of his GDP to the bank bailout, a bailout which resulted in no prominent banker or family member being jailed, in stark contrast to the bankers and family members who were jailed in our country as a result of the Savings and Loans Scandal).
While Calderon has announced plans to cut taxes for the most affluent, he has also stated that the disenfranchised and middle-class will need to pay their fair share, via a sales tax on food and medicine.
These types of draconian RightWing policies characterize Calderon and the PAN. They are to the RIGHT of Bush and the GOP.
On July 2, Centrists and Progressives in Mexico opted for AMLO, while the more regressive, less educated elements of Mexican society opted for Calderon. And please note that I say all this as a Mexican-American with dual-nationality who worked for an I-Bank in Mexico City for several years, still do so on occasion, and whose parents both hail from Nuevo Leon (northern Mexico).
