Hunter Osborn is a 19-year-old senior at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Arizona who took a high school prank a bit too far. He says he was dared by a classmate to expose the tip of his penis in the annual football team photo and he took the challenge. Not only did it slip past administers and make it into the yearbook, the school sold football programs featuring the photo all season long. Now that students have the yearbook in hand, someone pointed out the exposure and Hunter Osborn is facing serious charges:
There were 69 students, ranging in age from 15 to 19, and 10 faculty members present when the picture was taken. Police said Osborn knowingly exposed the top of his penis through the top of the waistband of his football uniform pants during the photo session.
Based on the photo and admission, Osborn was booked for 69 counts of indecent exposure -- a class 1 misdemeanor -- and one count of furnishing harmful items to minors -- a class 4 felony.
The count of furnishing harmful items to minors is the photo itself, inside the yearbooks that went out to other students. The number of charges could change, particularly if other students in the photo (who are over 18) do not want him to be charged in their name. Many in the community and at the school feel the charges are entirely too harsh:
Anthony and Brooke Bodrero, a sophomore, said they would not have noticed the offending image without being instructed where to look.
"It's something that's going to be on his record for the rest of his life," Bodrero said. "The consequences are a little harsh."
According to the interview with CBS 5 News, Osborn reportedly told administrators he’s deeply sorry for the trouble he’s caused and disgusted he went through with it.
