Donald Trump, looking to build on his Trump University legacy, is putting in motion a task force to reform higher education and he wants his early supporter, evangelical leader and Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., to lead it. Alex Johnson writes:
Len Stevens, the university's chief spokesman, told NBC News that Falwell would bring a focus on "overregulation and micromanagement of higher education" to the task force.
Falwell wasn't immediately available for comment Tuesday evening. In the past, he has argued that the federal government imposes too many regulations governing accreditation and financing of U.S. colleges and universities.
"Overregulation" has clearly been hobbling higher education. Trump University could have absolutely thrived if only it hadn’t run into lawsuits challenging its failure to comply with licensure requirements. What a shame. Falwell turned down Trump's original invitation to be the secretary of education, so Trump turned to a Christian conservative who was even less qualified, GOP mega donor Betsy DeVos.
