A president is not in charge of telling the attorney general of the United States how to interpret the law. Attorneys general take an oath of office to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States," not to abide by the petty grievances of a tyrant—at least not until now. The fact that Donald Trump retaliated against acting Attorney General Sally Yates for deciding his ill-conceived racist executive order was unconstitutional raises a whole new set of questions around Jeff Sessions’ ability to act independent of the pr*sident’s wishes. In other words, will Sessions’ fealty be to the Constitution or to Trump and the white nationalist influencers whispering in his ear.
Oh, bloody hell—two seconds into an actual thought and now the entire government is unraveling before our very eyes. #MassacreMonday
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kelly appointed Thomas Homan to fill the post.
Ok, so I stand by my original thought. Sessions needs a new round of questions. And on the note, let’s let constitutional law scholar Laurence Tribe finish out this post.
