Here’s the actual press pool quote, since it’s too tiny to read above:
“Wheels down at 11:58am
During the flight HRC came to the back of the plane to say “welcome” to the press. Asked whether she was happy to travel with us, she answered she was “very happy. I have been waiting for that moment”, with a big sarcastic smile on her face.”
Wow. A “big sarcastic smile”, huh? Seems pretty genuine and friendly to me.
You know what I don’t see here?
- No eye rolling
- No heavy sigh
- No “air quotes”
- No “jerk-off” motions with her hands
For God’s sake, it was just 5 weeks ago that we were dealing with headlines like this one:
Well, she did smile. She was friendly, gregarious, warm, gracious...but now she’s criticized for that. No possible way she could’ve been sincere; she must have been “sarcastic”.
Of course, when Donald Trump suggested that an adversarial foreign power hack into the U.S. State Dept’s mail servers, he had to have been being sarcastic as well, right?
So basically it comes down to this:
Donald Trump says something horrible and shocking: “That’s gotta be a joke! He was just being sarcastic!”
Hillary Clinton says something friendly and pleasant: “No way she’s a human being with feelings! She must’ve been being sarcastic!”
UPDATE: How could I forget this great bit from Hillary’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel!!
UPDATE x2: Oh for the love of God…
