Some of these numbers are astonishing: NH Exit Polls
Let’s get the big one out of the way — race. Bernie lost the non-white vote to Clinton — by %1, i.e. a virtual tie.
Clinton also beat Bernie in the 65+ age category:
But look at those number under 50! Holy cow, that’s some real energy and a sign of the coming wave.
Another category in which Clinton beats Bernie was income over $200k, and not by much. Seems that rich democrats are mostly willing to pay their fair share.
Now we get into the demographics where Bernie simply crushes Clinton across the board.
First Time voters, an important static when building a movement, went an overwhelming 78% for Bernie. Studies have shown that the party you register and vote for the first time tends to stick for many elections. This means that Bernie is churning out freshly minted Democrats!
Another import category where Bernie shows enormous strength is his appeal across the entire spectrum of ideologies. Yes, he takes more of the ultra-liberals, but more importantly, he’s not scaring away moderates.
Not only is Bernie not scaring away moderates, he flat out destroyed Clinton for the ever important Independent vote — 72%!! This bodes well for Bernie in a general election.
Moving on to education, we see Bernie’s wide appeal to the working class blue collar voter, as well as those who dabbled in higher education but didn’t finish. Even the super-educated picked Bernie over Clinton.
And the BIG ONE! Women! Bernie decimated the BernieBro meme by winning over women voters by 55%. Clinton’s attempt to win them over by trotting out endorsements from powerful women and feminists actually backfired terrible with surrogates saying really stupid shit in advance of NH.
These numbers look pretty good for Bernie. On to NV! SC! Yeaaghhhh!
This only goes to show
UPDATE: More analysis:
Democratic voters want someone who’s Honest and Trustworthy most of all — duh! Extrapolating the data, it would seem that Bernie’s whopping 20 point+ victory shows which candidate voters trust more on this issue.
Nearly six in 10 were most focused on the candidate who’s most honest and trustworthy (33 percent) or “cares about people like me” (26 percent) – they backed Sanders overwhelmingly, by 92-6 and 81-18 percent, respectively.
41 percent said want a president who is more liberal than Obama, and those voters backed Sanders by a vast 80-19 percent.
And this stat I find very interesting — More Democrat voters find Sanders ACCEPTABLE than Clinton! Wow — there’s a big fucking hole in the electability argument!!!
Most Democratic voters would be satisfied with either Sanders (acceptable to eight in 10) or Clinton (acceptable to two-thirds) as the nominee.
To all the people claiming Bernie won because the voters in NH knew him because VT is next door — it just goes to show, the more people know Bernie, the more people LOVE Bernie!
